Marwan Kheireddine, Chairman and General Manager

Marwan Kheireddine is chairman and chief executive officer of BioIndustry Development Canada, the Canadian investment arm of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Before he was appointed CEO in 2006, Mr. Kheireddine served as COO and CFO before becoming the company’s chairman. He has also served on the Canadian Advisory Council of International Business Machines, Inc., and is a member of The International Forum for Children’s Rights.

Marwan Kheireddine is a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a degree in economics. He received his MBA from the University of Ottawa. He also obtained an executive certificate from Harvard Business School. Marwan Kheireddine has received several awards for his work. In 2007, Mr. Kheireddine received the International Business Leaders award from the Canada-France Business Council for his contributions to Canada-France relations. He also received a 2007 innovation award from the Ottawa International Chamber of Commerce and honoris causa from the University of Ottawa in recognition of his achievements in creating a first-class company within a challenging industry.

Marwan Kheireddine’s success in business can be attributed to his hard work. He worked in many industries before getting into the biotechnology industry in the early 1990s. He started his career as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company and then moved on to Air Canada. Kheireddine had worked there for a few years, but he realized he was not happy and decided to join Amgen in 1996 as senior vice president of strategic planning and development. He held several positions with this company before he resigned in 1998 to start BioIndustry Development Canada (BIDC).

Marwan Kheireddine believes in following one’s passion and not just stability because, without power, you can never become successful. BIDC was created through Kheireddine’s passion for creating a high-quality biotechnology company offering research services around scientific fields such as genomics, bioinformatics, pharmaceuticals, and life sciences research.
