This year many decisions were made regarding the future of Highland Capital Management. James Dondero, the Co-Founder and CEO of the company chose to elect Linda Owen, civic leader of Dallas and former President of The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. Dondero’s main goal for choosing Owen was to create a more strategic approach to the business side of Highland Capital Management as well as find new ways to more charitable giving. As the charitable giving manager, Owen plans to research new ways and arenas in which the company can give of their time as well as their financial bounty.
James Dondero said in a recent article that, “As we’ve expanded our philanthropic activities, we recognized the need for a dedicated professional to ensure our contributions make the biggest impact.” Giving has always been a big part of what Dondero does and it’s what he believes in, but managing the business as well as the philanthropic efforts has shown Dondero there is a need for a helping hand. While the need is urgent, the direct focus is making changes that will have a more immediate impact on the community.
Dondero wants to inspire others to do the same, and all the while he intends to help many local organizations to properly manage their funds as well as their ability to give to charity. Owen started her career in law, and over time she became involved with parks and other recreational facilities.
